Background

Marcus studied his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology at The University of Edinburgh, specialising in his final year on magnetotactic bacteria and molecular genetics. After graduating he begun working with Ingenza Ltd., a biotechnology company based at the Roslin Biocentre, just to the south of Edinburgh. Here Marcus gained further knowledge in molecular genetics, as well as strain construction, analytical chemistry and biochemistry.
 
Research

During his PhD, which is in conjunction with Ingenza Ltd., Marcus hopes to develop the tools for CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in several Bacillus sp., with an aim to make strains of industrial significance for large scale enzyme or small molecule production.
