Vivek Senthivel

 

Background


Vivek has a PhD in synthetic biology from Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. His PhD work in the group of Prof. Mark Isalan involved identifying biophysical parameters required for building spatial patterns and developing tools for mammalian synthetic biology, that can be used for building spatial patterns in a 3D mammalian cell culture system. Prior to his PhD, Vivek worked at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore, India and he has experience working with mitochondrial dynamics in mammalian and insect cell lines. Vivek was one of the advisors for the Bangalore team participating in iGEM 2007, in which they constructed synthetic quorum sensing circuit to predict closed-loop gene regulatory network behavior using measurements from open-loop circuits. After obtaining his PhD, Vivek did a short term project with Dr. Tom Ellis at Imperial College London to developed synthetic biology tools for modular assembly of gene networks, specially for metabolic engineering of cellulose production in Acetobacter.

Research


Vivek’s current project involves developing receptor based biosensors for theranostics and drug testing in mammalian cell lines.
